The challenge

Modernize a critical infrastructure that had become obsolete

The customer needed to modernize its infrastructure to manage critical applications requiring high performance and low latency. Its on-premise infrastructure, saturated and costly to maintain, no longer met operational requirements.  

The main challenge was to design and implement a migration strategy that would guarantee optimal performance while offering the flexibility of the Cloud, without compromising data security and service continuity.

Our customer, with two distinct environments (production and development), was faced with several constraints:

  • Need to maintain performance equivalent to a physical infrastructure
  • Imperative of high availability for critical applications
  • Need for enhanced security to protect sensitive data – Requirement to optimize operating costs
The main objectives of this migration were to :

  • Migrate all PeopleSoft workloads to virtual instances (VMs) on OCI Compute.
  • Implement a highly available and resilient architecture
  • Optimize operating costs thanks to Cloud functionalities
  • Simplify infrastructure maintenance and evolution

The SQORUS solution

A robust, optimized cloud architecture

SQORUS designed a complete PaaS (Platform as a Service) approach to meet the customer’s specific needs:

1. High-availability architecture

  • Deployment in an OCI region with two Availability Domains (ADs)
  • Redundancy and load balancing for maximum availability
  • Oracle Active Data Guard for a high-availability database (primary in AD1, standby in AD2)

2. Enhanced security

  • Set up a bastion in a public subnet to secure access to private instances
  • Optimized interconnection via VCN to eliminate latency
  • Strict separation of NCVs (production/development) with granular security rules

3. Optimized performance

  • Deployment of an active-active Load Balancer to efficiently distribute traffic to PeopleSoft web servers
  • Using Oracle Active Data Guard for a high-availability database (primary in AD1, standby in AD2).
  • Configuration of Standard VM instances (E4/Flex), dynamically scalable (OCPU/memory) according to load

4. Operational efficiency

  • Use Oracle Linux as base image, with automated updates via OS Management Service
  • Implementation of dynamic autoscaling on application and web servers to manage peaks in activity
  • Orchestration via Terraform and OCI Resource Manager to simplify maintenance
