Integration of new employees: how to optimize onboarding?

Several studies point to the poor reception conditions faced by newly recruited employees. Nearly one in five even consider leaving their new position after just one day! However, a successful onboarding process guarantees the stability and durability of the relationship between the employee and the company. So, how do you optimize theintegration of new employees ?

Anticipate the arrival of the new employee

The reflection on the
integration process
of new employees must be carried out before defining the required profile. It is therefore important to provide the necessary equipment for his work (desk, access badges or fully configured computer for example), but also to disseminate the information to future colleagues. This way, everyone will be able to identify the new employee as soon as they arrive.

Once the contract is signed, the newcomer must be able to access the company’s IT portal. He will have the opportunity to fill out paperwork, watch videos and learn about the corporate culture. The advantage is twofold: to involve the new employee as early as possible so that he or she feels useful and to free up time for more profitable tasks on the day he or she actually takes up the position.

Involve as many people as possible

To optimize the chances of making theemployee experience of the interesting newcomer, it is necessary to break the isolation. The involvement of his colleagues must be there. There are several actions that have proven their worth over many years. A breakfast or lunch can be organized as well as a guided tour of the new premises.

The presentation of projects of the company can also take place in the form of interviews in small groups. The manager must, of course, be involved as soon as the new employee arrives. It is not necessarily in his interest to be present all day if he has a busy schedule.

Integration of new employees: designate a referent

For a new hire, a new work environment is not necessarily easy to grasp, especially in one day! It is therefore essential to follow up over a longer period of time in order to ensure that the employee is growing in strength. An unproductive employee is expensive for any company.

To avoid this pitfall, it is possible to designate one of your colleagues as a referent. This person will be responsible for regular reviews during the learning phase, in order to assess the employee progress recently recruited. He will be able to collect impressions and difficulties, whether they are professional, relational or simply practical. Thus, adjustments will quickly correct any deviations.
