Should you consider a Postmodern ERP solution?

What is important to keep in mind is that the transition to postmodern ERP software is a strategy and an approach, not a product per se. There is no such thing as a postmodern ERP solution developed and distributed by a particular ERP vendor. Our experience in this area is that some companies find benefits in meeting the needs expressed by the business functions in a postmodern approach, while others find it tedious and too expensive.

What are the steps when considering a post-modern ERP solution?

Companies considering a post-modern approach should conduct a preliminary impact study and then evaluate which software or packages will best fit into theexistingapplication architecture andinfrastructure and work as smoothly as possible.

Thedecision and choicesupport also takes into account the actors who will be in charge of the integration, administration and maintenance of the future configuration in service conditions.

Large companies, especially those engaged in a new digital strategy, may find the postmodern approach rather attractive, when they have a solid budget associated with in-house expertise to take charge of the realization, implementation and maintenance of such application packages.

Other companies that have already outsourced or limited their internal IT capabilities, as well asmid-market companies with smaller budgets, may be put off by the effort at first. However, this is a tremendous opportunity to support growth and to distance ourselves from players who are already bogged down in systems that are totally unsuited to the uses of today’s employees.

Indeed, if the new configuration still requires manual interventions and data does not flow smoothly between system components, then a transition to a postmodern ERP is likely to be a counterproductive consumption of time and budget.
